Preparing Switches

Now that you know which switch is the right fit for what you need, now is how you get ready to install it and be able to use it. The method is quite easy, you can learn step by step below.

Switch Installation

The first step to using the switch is to install it. You can do this installation by doing the following steps:

Step 1 Rack Installation

Mounting in a rack other than 19 inches requires a bracket kit that is not included with the switch.

This image shows the standard 19-inch bracket and other optional mounting brackets. You can order an optional bracket.

Step 2 Installing the Rack-Mount Bracket

Use two screws to attach the long side of the bracket to each side of the switch.

  • Step 1: Use the four included screws to attach the bracket to the rack.
  • Step 2: Use the black screw to attach the cable guide to the left or right bracket.
Step 3 Wall Mount

If you want to mount it on the wall, here’s how you can apply it:

  • Step 1: Attach the 19-inch bracket to one side of the switch.
  • Step 2: Follow the same steps to attach the second bracket to the opposite side.
Step 4 Installing the RPS Connector Cover

If you are not using RPS with your switch, use two pan-head screws to attach the RPS connector cover to the back of the switch.

Step 5 Installing the Switch on the Table or Shelf

Step 1: To mount the switch on a table or shelf, find the adhesive strip with rubber feet in the envelope mounting kit.

Step 2: Attach the four rubber feet to the four circular strokes on the bottom of the chassis.

Step 3: Place the switch on a table or shelf near an AC power source.

After everything is installed, do the following:

  • Configure the switch by running Express Setup to enter the initial switch configuration.
  • Use the Aruba Switch setup program to enter the initial switch configuration.
  • Connect to the stack port.
  • Install the power cord holder (optional).
  • Connect to the front panel port.

Physical Cabling

Caution: The intrabuilding port of the equipment or subassembly is suitable for connection to intrabuilding or unexposed cables or cables only. Intrabuilding ports of equipment or subassemblies must not be connected metallic to the interface connected to the External Installation (OSP) or its cables.

This interface is designed for use as an intrabuilding interface only (Type 2 or Type 4 port as described in GR-1089-CORE, Issue 4) and requires isolation from exposed OSP cables. The addition of the Main Shield is not sufficient protection to metally connect this interface to the OSP cable.

When running the power cable and data cable together in the cable tray above or in the cable tray under the floor, observe the following warnings:

Caution: It is strongly recommended that running electrical wiring and other potential sources of noise be located as far away from LAN cabling as possible ending in Aruba equipment. In situations where this type of long parallel cable exists that cannot be separated by at least 3.3 feet (1 meter), shield this potential noise source. To avoid interference, the source must be protected by placing it in a grounded metal conduit.

Network Management

Network management is the total number of applications, tools, and processes used to provide, operate, maintain, manage, and secure network infrastructure. The overarching role of network management is to ensure network resources are available to users efficiently, effectively, and quickly.

With network management, of course, the network you have has a more structured way of working and there are also no many obstacles.

The Importance of Network Management

Network management has a very important role when you have a network. Whether it’s a small network, network management must be adjusted so that it can run smoothly.

The main goal of network management is to ensure your network infrastructure runs efficiently and smoothly. Thus, it achieves the following goals.

  • Minimize Costly Network Interference
  • Productivity Boost
  • Improved Network Security
  • Holistic View of Network Performance

Network Management Components

The definition of network management is often broad, because network management involves several different components.

Network Device

These are devices that connect clients and servers (and sometimes other networks) to a channel called an interface device. Common examples are modems and network interface cards.

Management Agent

To be managed, the network element must offer a management interface through which the management system can communicate with the network element for management purposes. For example, the management interface allows the management system to send requests to network elements.

Management System

A Network Management System (NMS) is an application or collection of applications that enables network administrators to manage network-independent components within a larger network management framework. NMS can be used to monitor software and hardware components in a network.

Management Support Organization

This is the component which, like a bank’s operations center, performs routine tasks that cut across the operations and administration of each of its branches.

Web GUI

Talking about network management, of course, cannot be separated from the name Web GUI. A web GUI is a web-based application that processes network events from one or more data sources and presents the event data to the user in various graphical formats in a web browser. Certain data may also be displayed on supported mobile devices.

Maybe you are still new to this web GUI, but when it comes to GUI you may have heard of it or at least not familiar with the term.

The web GUI uses a client-server architecture. The Web GUI server runs inside the Tivoli Integrated Portal. The client connects to the Tivoli Integrated Portal to access the Web GUI. The web GUI can be configured for integration with other Tivoli products.

What is a Graphical User Interface?

GUI or Graphical User Interface is an interface where users interact with electronic devices such as computers and smartphones through the use of icons, menus, and indicators or other visual representations.

There are many applications. Software applications use this and add additional GUIs of their own, for example Microsoft Word and Excel, or Adobe Photoshop. All internet browsers, such as Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Firefox use their own GUI to allow users to navigate through websites that may also have their own GUI (such as Facebook, Instagram, or WordPress sites).

How GUI Works

As an example to explain how the GUI works, an example is on the Windows operating system. The GUI uses windows, icons, and menus to execute commands, such as opening, deleting, and moving files. While GUI operating systems are primarily navigated using a mouse, the keyboard can also be used via keyboard shortcuts or arrow keys.

For example, if you wanted to open a program in a GUI system, you would move the mouse pointer over the program icon and double-click it. With the command line interface, you need to know the commands to navigate to the directory containing the program, list the files, and then run the files.
