DESCRIPTION

Cisco Jakarta – Cisco Catalyst 3650 Series Switches is the next generation of standalone and enterprise-class access layer switches that provides the foundation for full convergence between wired and wireless on a single platform. The 3650 series builds on the state-of-the-art Cisco StackWise®-160, and takes advantage of application-specific integrated circuits (UADP), which are Cisco Unified Access ™ (UADP) specific applications. This switch can enable uniform wire-wireless policy enforcement, application visibility, flexibility, application optimization and superior durability. The 3650 Series switches support the full IEEE 802.3at Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE +), Cisco Universal Power over Ethernet (Cisco UPOE®) on the Cisco Catalyst 3650 Series multigigabit switch, and offer redundant fans and power supplies that are modular and field replaceable. can be replaced.

Series 3650 switches also feature a 12 inch lower depth form factor so you can use them in tight, branched cable cabinets or remote offices where switch depth is a concern. Additionally, the 3650 multigigabit switch supports current and future generation wireless speeds and standards (including 802.11ac Wave 2) in existing wired infrastructure. The 3650 Series switches greatly increase wireless productivity and reduce TCO.

    Cisco Catalyst Multigigabit Technology

    Cisco Catalyst 3650 Mini Switches

  • Convergent Wired and Wireless AccessThe Cisco Catalyst 3650 Series is a standalone and stackable access switching platform that enables wired plus wireless services on a single platform based on the Cisco IOS XE Software. With this, Cisco has pioneered a number of rich capabilities such as high availability based on stateful switchover (SSO) on stack, granular QoS, security, and Flexible NetFlow (FNF) across wired and wireless in a seamless manner. Additionally, the wired plus wireless feature is bundled into a single Cisco IOS Software image, which reduces the number of software images a user must qualify / certify before enabling it on their network. A single console port for command line interface (CLI) management reduces the number of touch points managed for wired plus wireless services, thereby reducing network complexity,Converged wired plus wireless not only increases wireless bandwidth across the network but also scales wireless deployments. Each 48-port Cisco Catalyst 3650 provides 40 Gbps of wireless throughput (20 Gbps on the 24-port model). This wireless capacity increases with the number of members in the stack. This ensures that the network can scale to current wireless bandwidth requirements, as defined by IEEE 802.11n-based access points and by future wireless standards such as IEEE 802.11ac. In addition, the Cisco Catalyst 3650 distributes wireless controller functions to achieve better scalability. Each Cisco Catalyst 3650 switch / stack can operate as a wireless controller in two modes:
    • Mobility Agent (MA) : This is the default mode that the Cisco Catalyst 3650 uses to deliver. In this mode the switch is capable of terminating the CAPWAP tunnel from the access point and providing wireless connectivity to wireless clients. Maintaining a wireless client database and configuring and enforcing security policies and QoS for wireless clients and access points can be enforced in this mode. No additional licenses on top of the Base IP are required to operate in mobility agent mode.
    • Mobility controller (MC): In this mode, a Cisco Catalyst 3650 switch can perform all mobility agent tasks other than mobility coordination, radio resource management (RRM), and Cisco CleanAir® coordination within the mobility subdomain. Mobility controller mode can be activated on the CLI switch. The Base IP license tier is required when a Cisco Catalyst 3650 switch acts as a mobility controller. The centrally located Cisco 5508 Wireless LAN Controller (WLC 5508), Cisco Wireless Services Module 2 (WiSM2) (when running AireOS Version 7.3), and the Wireless LAN Controller 5760 can also perform this role for larger deployments.

With a mobility agent located in a wired cabinet providing 40 Gbps of wireless per switch (nx 40 Gbps for a stack of n switches) and a mobility controller managing multiple central wireless functions, converged access based wireless deployments provide best in class scalability for wireless and throughput. significantly improved wireless.

    Intelligent Services Cisco Jakarta

    Flexible NetFlow (FNF)

Full visibility into wired plus wireless traffic is achieved due to access point control and provision of a wireless access point (CAPWAP) on the switch. It helps identify users and user traffic flows to identify potential attackers and take corrective action at the access layer before attacks penetrate further into the network. This is achieved using FNF, which monitors every flow entering and leaving the switch stack for both wired and wireless users. It also helps identify top wired / wireless speakers and enforces appropriate bandwidth provision policies.

    QoS

The Switch 3650 has advanced wired plus wireless QoS capabilities. It uses the Cisco modular QoS command line interface (MQC). The switch manages wireless bandwidth using unprecedented hierarchical bandwidth management starting at the per-access-point level and further down the per-radio, per-service set identification (SSID), and per-user rates. This helps manage and prioritize the available bandwidth between various radios and various SSIDs (corporate, guest, etc.) within each radio by percentage.

This switch is also capable of automatically allocating the same bandwidth among connected users within a given SSID. This ensures that all users within a given SSID get a fair share of the available bandwidth while connected to the network. UADP ASIC allows hierarchical bandwidth management and fair bandwidth sharing, thus providing hardware-based QoS for optimized performance at line-level traffic.

In addition to these capabilities, switches can perform class of service (CoS) or differentiated service code points (DSCP) based on queuing, policing, shaping, and tagging of wired plus wireless traffic. This allows users to create general policies that can be used for wired plus wireless traffic. The 3650 also supports policy names which can be downloaded from the Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) when the user successfully authenticates to the network using ISE.

    Security

The Cisco Catalyst 3650 provides a rich set of security features for wired plus wireless users. Features like IEEE 802.1x, Snooping Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), IP Source Guard and aircraft protection controls, wireless intrusion prevention system (WIPS), and so on allow protection against unauthorized users and attackers. With multiple wired and wireless users connected to the network, the switch supports session-aware networking, where each device connected to the network is identified as a single session, and unique access control lists (ACLs) and / or QoS policies can be defined and enforced using ISE. for each of these sessions, provides better control over network-connected devices.

    Resiliency

    Cisco StackWise-160 technology

The Cisco Jakarta Cisco Catalyst 3650 supports an optional stacking module based on Cisco StackWise-160 technology. Cisco StackWise-160 technology builds on the hugely successful industry-leading StackWise technology, which is a premium stacking architecture. StackWise-160 has a stack bandwidth of 160 Gbps. StackWise – 160 uses the Cisco IOS Software SSO to provide robustness in the stack. The stack behaves as a single switching unit managed by an “active” switch selected by the member switch. The active switch automatically selects the standby switch in the stack. The active switch creates and updates all switching / routing / wireless information and syncs that information continuously with the standby switch.

If the active switch fails, the standby switch assumes the role of the active switch and continues to run the stack. The access point remains connected during the active to standby transition. A working stack can accept new members or delete old ones without service interruption. The Wise-160 Stack creates a single, powerful integrated system of up to nine switches, providing simplified management using a single IP address, single Telnet session, single CLI, automatic version checking, automatic upgrades, auto upgrades, automatic configuration, and more. The StackWise-160 also enables local switching on the Cisco Catalyst 3650 Series Switches. (See Figure 4.)

    Advanced Security Features

Cisco Catalyst 3650 Series Switches support advanced security features including but not limited to:

    • Protection against attackers:
    1. Port security secures access to trunk ports or access based on MAC addresses. This limits the number of MAC addresses learned to resist MAC address flooding.
    2. DHCP snooping prevents malicious users from spoofing the DHCP server and sending fake addresses. This feature is used by other major security features to prevent a number of other attacks such as ARP poisoning.
    3. Dynamic ARP inspection (DAI) helps ensure user integrity by preventing malicious users from exploiting ARP’s insecurities.
    4. IP source guard prevents malicious users from spoofing or taking over other users’ IP addresses by creating a binding table between the client’s IP, MAC address, port, and VLAN.
    5. The Unicast Reverse Path Forwarding (RPF) feature helps reduce problems caused by the introduction of a malformed or fake (fake) IP source address into the network by removing IP packets that do not have a verifiable source IP address.
    6. Two-way data support on the SPAN port allows Cisco intrusion detection system (IDS) to take action when an intruder is detected.
    • User authentication:
    1. Flexible authentication that supports multiple authentication mechanisms, including 802.1X, MAC authentication bypass, and web authentication using a single consistent configuration.
    2. RADIUS redefines the authorization and downloadable calls for comprehensive policy management capabilities.
    3. Private VLANs restrict traffic between hosts on the same segment by splitting traffic at Layer 2, turning broadcast segments into multiaccess segments such as nonbroadcast. The private VLAN edge provides security and isolation between switch ports, which helps ensure that users can’t snoop on other users’ traffic.
    4. Multidomain authentication allows IP phones and PCs to authenticate on the same switch port while assigning them to the appropriate voice and data VLANs.
    5. MAC address notification allows administrators to be notified of users added or removed from the network.
    6. Mobility and security for secure and reliable wireless connectivity and a consistent end user experience. Increased network availability through proactive blocking of known threats.
    7. IGMP filtering provides multicast authentication by filtering out unsubscribed subscribers and limiting the number of concurrent multicast streams available per port.
    • ACLs:
    1. Security Cisco VLAN ACLs on all VLANs prevent unauthorized data flows from being bridged within the VLAN.
    2. Standard Cisco and ACL extended IP security routers establish security policies on interfaces that are routed to aircraft and data airplane traffic. IPv6 ACLs can be applied to filter IPv6 traffic.
    3. Port-based ACLs for Layer 2 interfaces allow security policies to be applied to individual switch ports.
    • Device access:
    1. The Secure Shell (SSH), Kerberos, and Simple Network Management Protocol Version 3 (SNMPv3) protocols provide network security by encrypting administrator traffic during Telnet and SNMP sessions. The SSH protocol, Kerberos, and cryptographic versions of SNMPv3 require special cryptographic software images due to US export restrictions
    2. TACACS + and RADIUS authentication facilitate centralized control of the switch and restrict unauthorized users from changing configurations.
    3. Multilevel security on console access prevents unauthorized users from changing switch configurations.
    • The bridge protocol data unit guard (BPDU) closes the Spanning Tree PortFast interface that is activated when a BPDU is received to avoid accidental topology loops.
    • Spanning Tree Root Guard (STRG) prevents edge devices that are not under the control of the network administrator from becoming Spanning Tree Protocol root nodes.
    • End-to-end wireless security offers CAPWAP compliant DTLS encryption to ensure encryption between access points and controllers across remote WAN / LAN links.

    Resiliency

A seamless network enables enterprise mobility and business-class video services. The industry’s first unified network (wired plus wireless) location service enables tracking of cellular assets and users of those assets for both wired plus wireless devices. A seamless experience is actually enabled by the following feature set on the Cisco Catalyst 3650 Series Switches:

    • High availability
    • High performance IP routing
    • Superior QoS

    High Availability

In addition to StackWise-160, the Cisco Catalyst 3650 Series supports high availability features including but not limited to the following:

    • Cross-Stack EtherChannel provides the ability to configure Cisco EtherChannel technology across multiple stack members for high durability.
    • Flexlink provides link redundancy with a convergence time of less than 100 ms.
    • IEEE 802.1s / w Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) and Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP) provide spanning-tree convergence that is independent of spanning-tree timers and also offers the benefits of Layer 2 load balancing and distributed processing. Stacked units behave as single spanning-tree nodes.
    • Rapid Spanning Tree Per-VLAN (PVRST +) enables fast convergence of spanning trees on a per-VLAN-spanning-tree basis, without requiring implementation of spanning-tree instances.
    • Switch-port autorecovery (Err-disable) automatically tries to re-enable links that were disabled due to network errors.

    High Performance IP Routing

Cisco Express Forwarding routing architecture provides extremely high-performance IP routing on Cisco Catalyst 3650 Series Switches:

    • IP unicast routing protocols (static, Routing Information Protocol Version 1 [RIPv1], and RIPv2, RIPng, the upgraded Interior Gateway Routing Protocol [EIGRP] stub) are supported for small network routing applications with the IP Base feature set. Limited static routing with the Base LAN feature set. Cost-equal routing facilitates balancing and redundancy of Layer 3 loads across the stack.
    • Advanced IP unicast routing protocols (Open Shortest First [OSPF], EIGRP, Border Gateway Protocol Version 4 [BGPv4], and Intermediate-to-Mid System Version 4 [IS-ISv4]) are supported for load balancing and building a secure LAN. scalable. IPv6 routing (OSPFv3, EIGRPv6) is supported in hardware for maximum performance. OSPF for routed access is included in the IP Base drawing. The IP Services feature set is required for the full OSPF, EIGRP, BGPv4, and IS-ISv4.
    • Policy-based routing (PBR) enables superior control by facilitating redirection of flows regardless of the routing protocol being configured. Virtual routing and forwarding (VRF) -Lite allows service providers to support two or more VPNs, with overlapping IP addresses. IP Base feature set required.
    • Protocol-independent multicast (PIM) for IP multicast routing is supported, including PIM infrequent mode (PIM – SM), PIM solid mode (PIM-DM), PIM solid mode, and source specific mode (SSM). IP Service feature set is required.
IPv6 addressing is supported on the interface with appropriate event commands for monitoring and troubleshooting.

    Superior QoS

The Cisco Catalyst 3650 Series offers Gigabit Ethernet speeds with intelligent services that keep traffic flowing smoothly, even at 10 times the normal network speed. Industry-leading mechanisms for tagging, classification, and traffic-stack scheduling deliver superior performance for data, voice, and video traffic, all at high speed.

The following are some of the QoS features supported on the Cisco Catalyst 3650 Series Switches:

    • Granular and equitable wireless bandwidth management uses Cisco IOS Software and proven UADP ASIC technology from Cisco to provide hierarchical bandwidth management at line rates (per access point, per radio, per SSID, per client based policy). Sharing fairly among users in the SSID ensures that not a single user is starving as other users have taken a hit. Fair share is automatically enabled for wireless at the user level as well as the SSID level.
    • 802.1p CoS and DSCP field classifications are provided, using tagging and reclassification on a per-packet basis based on the source and destination IP address, MAC address, or Layer 4 Transmission Control Protocol / User Datagram Protocol (TCP / UDP) protocol number.
    • Shaped round robin (SRR) scheduling helps ensure differential priority of packet flow by intelligently servicing incoming and outgoing queues. Weighted tail drop (WTD) provides avoidance of congestion in incoming and outgoing queues before disruption occurs. Strict priority queues help ensure that highest priority packets are served before all other traffic.
    • The CIR (Cisco information information rate) function provides bandwidth in increments as low as 8 Kbps.
Value constraints are assigned based on source and destination IP addresses, source and destination MAC addresses, Layer 4 TCP / UDP information, or a combination of these fields, using QoS ACL (IP ACL or MAC ACL), class map, and policy map.
Eight egress queues per port for wired traffic and four egress queues for wireless help to allow different management of different types of traffic across the stack for wired traffic. Up to 2000 aggregate cops are available per switch.

Application Visibility and Control Using Flexible NetFlow (FNF)

The Cisco IOS FNF Software is the next generation in flow visibility technology, enabling optimization of network infrastructure, reducing operating costs, and improving capacity planning and security incident detection with increased flexibility and scalability. The Cisco Catalyst 3650 provides FNF-optimized application visibility on wired plus wireless. The switch is capable of 48,000 flow entries on the 48-port model and 24,000 flow entries on the 24-port model on wired and wireless.

With UADP ASIC, the Cisco Catalyst 3650 delivers next-generation flow technology with unprecedented flexibility and comprehensive visibility extending from Layer 2 flags (MAC and VLAN) to Layer 4 (TCP / UDP) and beyond across wired and wireless traffic. The Cisco Catalyst 3650 switch is a medianet capable of providing visibility and troubleshooting capabilities across wired plus wireless video traffic. Certain medianet features will be enabled in a future software update.

The flow data collected by FNF can be exported to an external collector for analysis and reporting or tracked by EEM. The Cisco Catalyst 3650 enables strong, customizable on-box correlation of policy activities and actions with EEM, allowing a switch to trigger event alarms or custom policy actions when specified conditions are met. With no external tools required, customers can use existing infrastructure to perform traffic monitoring, making traffic analysis economical even on large IP networks.

The Cisco Catalyst 3650 supports Wireshark, the world’s leading network protocol analyzer, and is ideal for proactive debugging, troubleshooting and monitoring network performance. Using Wireshark, users can capture wired and wireless control and data packets, easily displaying and analyzing them on the screen or the Wireshark GUI. Using Flexible NetFlow and the Embedded Event Manager, Wireshark packet capture can be initiated in an event such as a SYN flood attack or abnormal bandwidth usage by certain users.

High-performance video over wireless integrates Cisco VideoStream technology to optimize the delivery of video applications across WLANs.

The wireless plus wired IP phone supports unified communications for enhanced collaboration through messaging, attendance, and conferencing and supports all Cisco Unified Communications wireless IP phones for cost-effective real-time voice services.

    Audio Video Bridging

With Cisco IOS® XE 16.3 Software Release, select * the Cisco Catalyst 3650 Series model supporting the IEEE 802.1 AVB standard. This standard provides the means for the delivery of highly reliable and reliable low-latency AV streaming services over Layer 2 Ethernet networks. This standard also makes it easy to integrate new services and for AV equipment from different vendors to operate. Whether a flexible one-to-one analog or digital AV endpoint connection, network transport allows transparent many-to-many plug-and-play connections for multiple AV endpoints.

    Benefits:

Improves experience quality by lowering jitter and latency for time-synchronized, high-quality AV delivery
Provides application scalability across network deployments, including expansive and complex AV infrastructure
Lower total cost of ownership (TCO) by reducing cabling (lowering CapEx) and no licensing costs (lowering OpEx)

    Deployment Options

    Campus

In a campus-type deployment, operating the Cisco Catalyst 3650 in mobility agent mode and centralizing mobility controller functionality in the WLC 5760, WLC 5508, or WiSM2 helps achieve greater scalability and performance. The Cisco Catalyst 3650 provides CAPWAP termination for access points, uniform policy enforcement for wireless clients, enhanced wireless bandwidth, and uniform Cisco IOS Software based configuration and monitoring for wireless plus wired features. Mobility controllers provide central mobility, RRM, and CleanAir coordination.

Backward compatibility with traditional centralized wireless deployment modes on the WLC 5508, WiSM2, and WLC 5760 helps ensure that customers can migrate to a converged access approach based on the Cisco Catalyst 3650 incrementally, providing advanced controllers for existing access points. This migration also provides investment protection in the existing wireless controller infrastructure. The incremental adoption of the new Cisco Catalyst 3650 helps ensure seamless migration to connected wireless access mode. Figure 5 shows the Cisco Catalyst 3650 in a campus deployment.
