DESCRIPTION

Prior to the product Mikrotik CCR, it helps us to know what Bandwidth Management is

Bandwith Management

Simple queue can be said to be the easiest solution in doing bandwidth management, as a network admin we only need to enter the target address with the ip of the client computer then we determine the bandwidth allocated to that user. The problem arises if the user we handle is a large number of users. Not to mention if the user is dynamic. They can connect or disconnect according to their wishes. It would be very troublesome if we had to create simple queues one by one. One of the proxy features that can be used to solve this problem is with PCQ,

PCQ is a fairly easy way to perform bandwidth management where PCQ works with an algorithm that will share bandwidth evenly among a number of active clients. The ideal PCQ is applied when in bandwidth management we have difficulty in determining the bandwidth per client.

In a network that has many clients, a bandwidth management mechanism is needed with the aim of preventing the monopoly of bandwidth usage so that all clients can get their respective bandwidth quota. QOS (Quality of services) or better known as Bandwidth Management, is a method used to meet these needs.
At RouterOS Mikrotik, the implementation of QoS can be done with the Queue function.

What is Mikrotik CCR?

Cloud Core Router is a new flagship product from Mikrotik which has very high hardware performance. By using the Mikrotik CCR, the bandwidth management mechanism or better known as Bandwidth Management becomes easier.

How to Setting Mikrotik CCR for the First Time

For Bandwidth Management settings that will be used, you must first install the RouterOS software. After you install the RouterOS software, or turn on the Router for the first time, there are various ways how to connect to it:

  • Access Command Line Interface (CLI) via Telnet, ssh, serial cable or even keyboard and monitor if router has VGA card.
  • Accessing the Web based GUI (WebFig)
  • Using the WinBox configuration utility

Every router is factory pre-configured with IP address 192.168.88.1/24 on the ether1 port. Admin default name with blank password.

Additional configurations can be set depending on the RouterBoard model.
