The Cisco Catalyst 2960-X Series Switches include a single, fixed and available power supply with a Cisco IOS LAN Base or LAN Lite feature set. Cisco Catalyst 2960-XR Series Switches include a modular power supply that can be changed in the field and can accommodate a second power supply. Series 2960-XR is only available with the Cisco IOS IP Lite feature set. Tables 4 and 5 respectively list the configuration of the 2960-X and 2960-XR Series.

Software

All Cisco Catalyst 2960-X and 2960-XR Series Switches

By a Cisco Jakarta using a single Cisco IOS Software universal image for all SKUs. Depending on the switch model, the Cisco IOS image automatically configures the LAN Lite, LAN Base, or IP Lite feature set.

Note that each switch model is related to a certain level of features; LAN Lite cannot be upgraded to LAN Base, and LAN Base cannot be upgraded to IP Lite.

Switch Management

Cisco Catalyst 2960-X and 2960-XR Series Switches support the following on-device management features:

• Web UI via Cisco Configuration Professional. Configuration Professional provides a user interface for zero-day provisioning, which allows easy onboarding of switches. Configuration Professional also has an intuitive dashboard for configuring, monitoring and resolving switch problems (Figure 3). For more information about Cisco Configuration Professional,

● Bluetooth for over-the-air access. The switch supports an external Bluetooth dongle that is connected to the USB port on the switch and allows Bluetooth-based RF connections with external laptops and tablets (Figure 4). Laptops and tablets can access CLI switches using Telnet or Secure Shell (SSH) clients via Bluetooth. The GUI can be accessed via Bluetooth with a browser.

Network Management

Cisco Catalyst 2960-X and 2960-XR Series Switches offer superior CLI for detailed configuration and administration. The switch is also supported by a complete range of Cisco network management solutions.

• Cisco DNA Center the Cisco Catalyst 2960-X and 2960-XR Series Switches provide a simple web user interface for enterprise network customers to plug and play zero-day, search and switch management, topology visualization, and image management software. For details on Cisco DNA Center features, please refer to dnac.cisco.com.
• Plug and Play Jaringan Cisco supported using the Cisco Enterprise Application Infrastructure Policy Module (APIC-EM) and the Cisco DNA Center on the Cisco Catalyst 2960-X and Switch Series 2960-XR. It provides simple, secure, integrated, and integrated offerings for enterprise network customers to facilitate the launch of new branch or campus devices or to provide updates to existing networks with near zero touch implementation experience. Cisco Prime Infrastructure

provides comprehensive network cycle management, including a complete library with easy-to-use features to automate the initial and daily management of your Cisco network. Cisco Prime technology integrates hardware and software platform expertise and operational experience into a series of configurations, monitoring, problem solving, reporting, and administration tools that are driven by strong workflows. For detailed information about Cisco Prime,

Licenses must be purchased to use Cisco Prime Infrastructure, Cisco Network Plug and Play, or Cisco DNA Center network management solutions.

Stacking

Cisco FlexStack-Plus

provides an array of up to eight Cisco Catalyst 2960-X or 2960-XR By Cisco Jakarta Switches with the optional FlexStack-Plus module (Figure 5).

The FlexStack-Plus module is hot swappable and can be added to any Cisco Catalyst 2960-X or 2960-XR Series Switch with a FlexStack-Plus slot. Switches connected to the stack will automatically be upgraded to the Cisco IOS Software stack version and transparently join the stack without additional intervention.

To provide investment protection, FlexStack-Plus is compatible with FlexStack. Cisco Base Catalyst 2960-X LAN switches equipped with FlexStack-Plus modules can be stacked with Cisco Base Catalyst 2960-S and 2960-SF switches equipped with FlexStack modules (see Table 6). Table 7 lists the scalability and performance of FlexStack with various software images.

Cisco FlexStack-Extended

Allows remote stack out-of-the-closet option (floor to floor). This allows the back panel stacking up to eight Cisco Catalyst 2960-X or 2960-XR Series Switches by Cisco Jakarta. FlexStack-Extended can be added to the Cisco Catalyst 2960-X or 2960-XR Series Switch with back panel stacking slots. Table 8 lists the combination of switches supported with FlexStack-Extended, and Table 9 lists scalability and performance with various software images. FlexStack-Extended is supported on Cisco IOS 15.2 (6) E or newer and is available in two module configurations: fiber module and hybrid module.

The hybrid module has a copper port that allows short-range connectivity on a stack of local switches (Figure 6). This provides investment protection and compatibility with FlexStack-Plus over copper ports, while SFP + ports support stacking distance. The fiber module has two SFP + ports which support the stacking of far-reaching cables (Figure 7).

Cisco FlexStack-Plus, FlexStack-Extended, and Cisco IOS Software offer true stacking, with all switches in the stack acting as a single switch unit. FlexStack-Plus and FlexStack-Extended provide integrated data fields, integrated configuration, and a single IP address for switch management. The advantages of true stacking include lower total cost of ownership and higher availability through simplified management and cross-stack features including EtherChannel, SPAN, and Flex Links.

Application Visibility and Control (AVC)

Full (Flexible) NetFlow and NetFlow Lite both are supported on Cisco Catalyst 2960-X and 2960-XR Series Switches By Cisco Jakarta, allowing IT teams to understand the mix of traffic on their network and identify anomalies by capturing and recording the flow of certain packets. NetFlow Lite supports flexible traffic and export data sampling in the NetFlow Version 9 format for analysis of various Cisco ranks and third party collectors.

Flexible NetFlow is the next generation in flow visibility technology, enabling network infrastructure optimization, reducing operating costs, and increasing capacity planning and security incident detection with increased flexibility and scalability. Full (Flexible) NetFlow is included on all 2960-X and 2960-XR Series Switches and requires a Cisco ONE ™ Foundation license per switch or Cisco DNA Essentials per switch.

The Domain Name System as an Authoritative Source (DNS-AS)

features (AVC with DNS-AS) provide a centralized means to control the identification and classification of trusted network traffic within an organization. This accomplishes this by using network metadata stored in an authoritative DNS server for the domain in question to identify the application, and Modular Quality of Service (QoS) CLI (MQC) to classify the appropriate traffic and implement the appropriate policies.

DNS-AS is included on all Cisco Catalyst 2960-X and 2960-XR Switches and requires a Cisco ONE Foundation license per switch or Cisco DNA Essentials per switch.

Layer 3 Features

The Cisco hardware architecture provides the following high-performance IP routing features on the Cisco Catalyst 2960-X and 2960-XR Switches:

• Advanced IP unicast routing protocols (OSPF for Routed Access)supported to balance the load and build a LAN that can be scaled. IPv6 (OSPFv3) routing is supported in hardware for maximum performance.
• Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM) for IP multicast supported, including PIM Sparse Mode (PIM SM), PIM Dense Mode (PIM-DM), PIM Sparse-Dense Mode, and Source Specific Multicast (SSM).
• Policy-Based Routing (PBR)enables superior control by facilitating flow diversion regardless of the configured routing protocol (for IPv4 and IPv6).
• IP unicast routing protocols (static and RIPv1 and v2) supported for network routing applications.

In addition, Cisco hardware architecture provides the following high-performance IP routing features in the Cisco Catalyst 2960-XR Switches:

• IP unicast routing protocols (RIPng and Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol [EIGRP] Stub) supported for network routing applications.
• EIGRPv3 Stub and PIMv6 Stub are supported as a part of the IPv6 routing suite.
• Equal-cost routing facilitate load balancing and layer 3 redundancy on the stack.
• Hot Standby Routing Protocol (HSRP) and Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP)provides dynamic load balancing and failover for directed links.

Intelligent PoE+

IEEE 802.3af PoE and IEEE 802.3at PoE+ (up to 30W per port)

both are supported on the Cisco Catalyst 2960-X and 2960-XR Series Switches by Cisco Jakarta to reduce the total cost of ownership for use that incorporates Cisco IP phones, Cisco Aironet® wireless access points, or end devices that comply with PoE and other PoE + standards . PoE eliminates the need to supply wall power to devices that support PoE and eliminates the cost of adding electrical wires and circuits that are otherwise needed on IP telephones and WLAN deployments. The Cisco Catalyst 2960-X and 2960-XR PoE power allocation is dynamic, and power mapping increases up to 740W of maximum PoE + power.

Perpetual PoE is supported on Cisco Catalyst 2960-X and 2960-XR Series By Cisco Jakarta. With Perpetual PoE, PoE + power is maintained while the switch is reloading. This is important for critical endpoints such as medical devices and Internet of Things (IoT) endpoints such as PoE powered lights, so that there are no interruptions during the reboot switch.

Network Security

Cisco Catalyst 2960-X and 2960-XR Series Switches By Cisco Jakarta provides various security features to limit access to the network and reduce threats, including:

• MAC-based VLAN assignment, allows different users to authenticate to different VLANs. This feature allows each user to have different data VLANs on the same interface.
• Cisco TrustSec^®, which uses the Security Group Exchange Protocol (SXP) to simplify security and policy enforcement across networks. For more information about Cisco TrustSec security solutions.
• Comprehensive 802.1X features to control access to the network, including Flexible Authentication, 802.1X monitor mode, and RADIUS Change of Authorization.
• IPv6 First-Hop Securityimprove Layer 2 and Layer 3 network access for breeding IPv6 devices, especially BYOD devices. This protects against malicious router advertising, address spoofing, counterfeit Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), and other risks introduced by IPv6 technology.
• Device sensor and device classifier,activates smooth multipurpose device profiles, including BYOD devices. They also allow Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) to provide identity-based security policies. This feature is available on 2960-X and 2960-XR Series switches.
• Cisco Trust Anchor Technology,allows easy distribution of one universal image for all 2960-X and 2960-XR Series models by verifying the authenticity of Cisco IOS Software images. This technology allows the switch to perform Cisco IOS integrity checks at boot-up by verifying signatures, verifying trusted assets that are managed, and authenticating licenses.
• Cisco Threat Defense fitur, including Port Security, Dynamic ARP Inspection (DAI), and IP Source Guard.
• Private VLAN swhich limits traffic between hosts in the public segment by separating traffic at Layer 2, converting the broadcast segment to a non-broadcast multiaccess-like segment. This feature is supported on Series 2960-X and 2960-XR and is available on the LAN Base and IP Lite feature set.

◦     Private VLAN Edge to provide security and isolation between switch ports, which helps ensure that users cannot snoop on other users’ traffic.

• Unicast Reverse Path Forwarding (uRPF)to help reduce problems caused by identifying fake or fake IP source addresses into the network by removing IP packets that do not have verifiable IP source addresses. This feature is only available in the IP Lite feature set.
• Multidomain Authentication to allow IP phones and PCs to authenticate on the same switch port when placed on the appropriate voice and data VLAN.
• Access Control Lists (ACLs)for IPv6 and IPv4 for security and QoS ACL (ACE) elements.

◦     VLAN ACLs on all VLANs to prevent unauthorized data flows from being bridged in the VLAN.

◦     Router ACLs which determines security policies on interfaces that are directed for control-aircraft and data-plane traffic. IPv6 ACLs can be applied to filter IPv6 traffic.

◦     Port-based ACLs for the Layer 2 interface to allow security policies to be applied to each switch port.

◦     Downloadable ACLs (dACLs) to download ACLs from the RADIUS server during 802.1X authentication.

• SSH, Kerberos, and SNMPv3, provides network security by encrypting administrator traffic during Telnet and SNMP sessions. SSH, Kerberos, and cryptographic versions of SNMPv3 require special cryptographic software images due to U.S. export restrictions
• SPAN, with bi-directional data support, to enable the Cisco Intrusion Detection System (IDS) to take action when an intruder is detected.
• TACACS+ and RADIUS authentication to facilitate centralized switch control and restrict unauthorized users from changing configurations.
• MAC address Notification to notify administrators about users added or removed from the network.
• Multilevel security on console access to prevent unauthorized users from changing the configuration of the switch.
• BPDU Guard to turn off the Spanning-Tree Port Interface that is activated quickly when the BPDU is received to avoid accidental topology loops.
• Spanning Tree Root Guard (STRG)to prevent edge devices that are not in the network administrator’s control from becoming a Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) root node.
• Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) filteringto provide multicast authentication by filtering out unsubscribed customers and limiting the number of concurrent multicast streams available per port.
• Dynamic VLAN assignment through the implementation of VLAN Membership Policy, the Server client’s ability to provide flexibility in assigning ports to VLANs. Dynamic VLAN facilitates fast assignment of IP addresses.
• Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) supports to activate the Series 2960-XR switch to offer security management for all connected devices.

Enhanced QoS

The Cisco Catalyst 2960-X and 2960-XR Series Switches By Cisco Jakarta offers intelligent traffic management that keeps everything flowing smoothly. A flexible mechanism for tagging, classifying and scheduling provides superior performance for data, voice and video traffic, all at wire speed. The main QoS features include:

• Up to eight egress queues per port and strict priority queues so that the packet with the highest priority is served before all other traffic.
• Shaped Round Robin (SRR) scheduling and Weighted Tail Drop (WTD) avoids traffic jams.
• Flow-based rate limiting and up to 256 aggregates or each police per port.
• 802.1p Class of Service (CoS) and Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP) classification, with marking and classification on a per packet basis according to source and destination IP address, MAC address, or Layer 4 TCP / UDP port number.
• Cross-stack QoS to allow QoS to be configured in Series 2960-X and 2960-XR switch stacks.
• The Cisco Committed Information Rate (CIR) functions, providing bandwidth with increases as low as 8 Kbps.
• Rate limiting based on source and destination, IP address, source and destination MAC address, TCP / UDP Layer 4 information, or a combination of all these fields, using QoS ACL (IP ACL or MAC ACL), class maps, and policy maps.

Scalability

Switching Database Manager (SDM) templates for LAN Base and IP Lite licenses allow administrators to automatically optimize the allocation of Ternary Addressed Content Memory (TCAM) to desired features based on specific usage requirements, including MAC scalability numbers, routing, security, and QoS, depending on the type of template used in switch.

Table 10 lists the scalability for LAN Lite and LAN Base licenses in Series 2960-X. Table 11 lists the scalability for an IP Lite license on the 2960-XR Series by Cisco Jakarta.

Redundancy and Resiliency

Cisco Catalyst 2960-X dan 2960-XR Series Switches By Cisco Jakarta offers a number of redundancy and resilience features to prevent blackouts and help ensure that the network remains available:

• EtherChannel cross-stack provides the ability to configure Cisco EtherChannel technology in various stack members for high durability.
• Flex Links provides link redundancy with convergence times of less than 100 milliseconds.
• IEEE 802.1s / w Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) and Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP) provide spanning-tree convergence that is independent of the spanning-tree timer and also offers the benefits of Layer 2 load balancing and distributed processing. The stacked units behave as a single spanning-tree node.
• Rapid Spanning Tree Per-VLAN (PVRST +) enables fast spanning tree convergence on a per-VLAN base-spanning tree, without requiring the implementation of spanning-tree instances.
• Cisco HSRP is supported to create a redundant, fail-safe routing topology on the 2960-XR Series IP Lite SKUs.
• The auto-recovery (Disable Error) switch-port automatically tries to reactivate a link that was disabled due to a network error.
• Power redundancy with the optional second power supply on the 2960-XR Series model, or with an external redundant (RPS) power supply on the 2960-X Series model.

Operational Efficiency

Cisco Catalyst Smart Operations is a comprehensive set of capabilities that simplifies LAN planning, deployment, monitoring and problem solving. Deploying the SmartOperations tool reduces the time and effort needed to operate the network and reduces the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).

• The Cisco AutoConfig service determines the network access level provided to endpoints based on the type of device. This feature also allows hard binding between the end device and the interface.
• The Cisco Smart Install service enables minimal touch deployment by providing automatic installation and configuration of
• Cisco IOS Software images when a new switch is connected to the network. This enables network administrators to remotely manage Cisco IOS Software image installations and updates.
• The Cisco Auto SmartPorts service enables automatic switch port configuration when a device is connected to a switch, with settings optimized for device types, for providing no-touch port policies.
• Cisco Auto-QoS automatically configures QoS, enabling changes to manage QoS policies based on traffic types, resulting in no-touch traffic engineering. Automatic QoS supports eight exit queues on the 2960-X and 2960-XR Series.
• Cisco Smart Troubleshooting is a broad set of diagnostic commands and system health checks in the switch, including Smart Call Home. Cisco Generic Online Diagnostics (GOLD) and online diagnostics on switches on the network directly help predict and detect failures more quickly.

• Cisco AutoSecure provides a single-line CLI to enable basic security features (Port Security, DHCP snooping, DAI). This feature simplifies security configuration.
• The automatic DHCP configuration of many switches through the boot server makes it easy to install switches.
• Stacking master configuration management with Cisco FlexStack-Plus and Cisco FlexStack-Extended technology helps ensure that all switches are upgraded automatically when the master switch receives a new software version. Power management

Cisco Catalyst 2960-X and 2960-XR Series Switches offer a variety of industry-leading features for energy efficiency and effective energy management. They are the greenest switch in the industry.

The Hibernation Mode (SHM) switch is the industry’s first and is available on all 2960-X and 2960-XR Series switches. This feature puts the switch in ultra-low power mode during non-operating periods such as nights or weekends. SHM on Series 2960-X and 2960-XR switches can be scheduled using management software that is compatible with Cisco EnergyWise®.

IEEE 802.3az EEE (Energy Efficient Ethernet) allows the port to sense the idle period dynamically between traffic spikes and quickly switches the interface to low power standby mode, reducing power consumption.

Cisco EnergyWise policies can be used to control the power consumed by PoE-powered end points, desktop IT and data center equipment, and various building infrastructures. Cisco EnergyWise technology is included on all Cisco Catalyst 2960-X and 2960-XR Switches.

Cisco DNA Subscription License

Cisco Catalyst 2960-X and 2960-XR Series Switches By Cisco Jakarta supports term-based Cisco DNA Essentials licenses.

Order and manage licenses with smart accounts: Creating smart accounts using Cisco Smart Software Manager (SSM) allows you to order devices and license packages and also to manage your software licenses from a centralized website. You can set Cisco SSM to receive e-mail alerts every day and be notified of the expiration of the add-on license that you want to renew.

When the license period expires, you can renew the add-on license to continue using it or deactivate the add-on license and then reload the switch to continue operating with basic licensing capabilities.
